Suneeva Saldanha (b. 1990, Virajpet, India) After spending the majority of her life in South India, Saldanha relocated to Seattle in 2019. She studied animation at university in India, and currently also works in painting, sculpture, and animation. Saldanha pulls influences from traditional Indian miniature painting, geometry and repetitive design, and memories of the flora and fauna of South India. Her detailed, intimate drawings employ surrealism, as her flowers become anthropomorphized with lips, noses, long-lobed ears and long-lashed eyes. The process of painting geometrically repetitive organic forms, achieved by creating an element over and over, becomes a form of meditation.
