Richard Tinkler

Richard Tinkler  (b. 1975, Westminster, Maryland) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He received his BA from the University of North Texas in 1999 and his MFA from Hunter College in 2003.  Tinkler's work is distinguished by a meticulous process that is both disciplined and intuitive. His richly layered paintings are rigorously structured yet visually hallucinatory, building upon a foundational vocabulary of geometric grids, recurring shapes, and carefully calibrated color relationships. Drawing is equally central to Tinkler's practice. Executed with the same meticulous attention to detail, his kaleidoscopic works on paper employ gridded compositional systems to generate intricate, dynamic geometries. These drawings extend the visual language of his paintings while revealing the precision and complexity that underpin his broader artistic practice. Tinkler has had solo and group shows in New York; San Sebastian-Donostia; Los Angeles; Provincetown; Rancho Mirage; Washington, D.C., and Miami, among other locations.  His work is in numerous private and public collections, including the Fairfield Art Museum (CT), CELINE, (Paris, FR) and the Maramotti Collection (Reggio Emilia, IT).
