Louise Jones (b. 1988, Los Angeles, CA), a second generation Chinese American, is a painter and muralist based in Detroit. She studied drawing and printmaking at University of California, Santa Cruz. Widely recognized for her murals, Jones, who also goes by the moniker Ouizi, has created murals in public spaces in museums throughout the states and internationally, including: the Buffalo AKG Museum, Crystal Bridges Museum, Detroit Institute for the Arts, Henry Ford Cancer Pavilion, Gokotta (Ljusdal, Sweden), New Britain Museum of American Art, Pudong District (Shanghai, China), the North Carolina Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. Recent solo and group exhibitions of her paintings include: ZieherSmith (Nashville, TN), Library Street Collective at the Shepherd (Detroit), University of Michigan Museum of Art, Ochi Gallery (Ketchum, ID), and Hashimoto Contemporary (LA). Her affinity for painting botanical subjects stems from an early introduction to Georgia O’Keeffe, exposure to the spiritual symbolism of flowers in Eastern religions, and a lifelong love of floral textile patterns.
