Lizania Cruz (b.1983, Dominican Republic) is a New York-based, Dominican participatory artist and designer interested in how systematic issues, mythmaking, historiography, and language shape our understanding of otherness and belonging. Through research, oral history, and audience engagement, she develops projects that expand and share pluralistic narratives on migration. Highly exhibited, Cruz has participated in solo and group shows in El Museo del Barrio (NY), A.I.R. Gallery (NY), The Aldrich Museum (Ridgefield CT), The Sharjah Design Bienniale, Vancouver Art Gallery, Institute for Contemporary Art VCU (Richmond, VA), and Brooklyn Museum. Cruz has participated in numerous residencies and fellowships, including: Yaddo (Saratoga Springs, NY), Fundacion Ama Amoeda (Uruguay), ISCP, Jerome Hill Fellowship in Visual Arts, and Institute of Othering and Belonging at UC Berkeley.
